Group Exercise 2: Studying a Case of Trauma

Overview

Group papers, as defined in the syllabus, involve creating a single document incorporating your group members’ work and answering the questions for that topic.

This paper should:

• Be approximately two (2) single-spaced pages
• Include all group members’ names
• Include citations for any articles you use

The paper is due before class on Friday, 2/26.

Specifics

Start by coming to an agreement as to what specific focus your group would like to take. You do not need to explore a specific type of trauma (in fact, you could accomplish this paper without ever describing a traumatic event), but you should be thinking about what symptom/aspect of posttraumatic stress disorder you would like to focus on.

Your group will write two sections for this paper, of approximately equal length. You should answer many of the follow questions (although you may skip some).

1. Design a case which includes

   1. Why the patient sought treatment
   2. The history of the presenting problem
   3. What diagnosis they would receive
   4. Additional comorbidities
   5. Possible cultural, demographic, religious, social, or economic considerations for the case

2. Make recommendations for treatment:

   1. What kind of treatment would you recommend?
   2. How would that benefit the specific symptoms described in #1 above?
   3. How would the patient’s life change based on the diagnosis? What about based on the treatment?

You should plan to cite at least one academic article—likely related to the treatment! (Use Google Scholar, PsycINFO, or any of the databases through the Bard library.) You may also choose to cite the DSM-5.
